Stopping Illegal Robocalls Where They Start

On Point Radio takes on Robocalls

WBUR-Boston produces On Point Radio, a call-in program syndicated on NPR. On Tuesday (24-Dec) they invited me to be one of their guests for a show talking about — what else — robocalls. Also on the show were Sarah Krouse, a New York-based Wall Street Journal reported who has written a number of great stories on the topic, and Eric Troutman, who heads a law practice that specializes in defending (legal) robocallers when they get sued.

It was fun to be part of the program. Producer Anna Bauman was efficient and informed as we prepped for the program. Host Meghna Chakrabarti makes her job appear effortless but it clearly takes a lot of work to keep things flowing and interesting.

I was able to highlight the promise of stopping calls at the source (about 25 minutes into the program). And at the end, I let folks know that although 2019 saw yet another rise in robocalls, the industry has demonstrated the ability to trace these calls back — so we know where they come from and we’re well positioned to do something about it.
